Theorist, critic, author, pundit. To Leo Braudy, the man of many hats, university life is a banquet and he is bringing everything -- the wine, the candles, the casserole.

Like each of the 20 USC faculty members to hold the title of University Professor, his areas of expertise cross disciplinary boundaries and spill into assorted subjects, including those in which he holds appointments: cinematic arts and English.

One of the country's leading film critics, Braudy has appeared in all the best cinema journals. He has written 11 books and more than 150 articles. His cultural interests are as varied as his academic pursuits. He has written on chivalry, weaponry, war and gender studies. He teaches 17th- and 18th-century English literature, film history and criticism, and American culture. He is a one-man band of cultural scholarship. He also likes show tunes.
