Maja Mataric's idea of artificial intelligence isn't the Terminator or the animatronic creatures at Chuck E. Cheese. Her robots will be heroes.
By combining artificial intelligence with computer science, cognitive behavior, neuroscience and sociology, Mataric' aims to develop robots with humanlike traits to help people who are sick or require emergency help.
Along with designing robotics to help those in need, she is collaborating with K-12 teachers to develop hands-on robotics curricula to promote science and engineering. Sorry, kids: no robotic teachers on the horizon.
