Director, USC Center for Health Policy and Management
USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development

The managed care debate reflects a national tug of war over spending. How much are Americans willing to pay for health care and how much health care are providers will to give? To help sort out these and other issues in the high-stakes world of managed care, the Center for Health Policy and Management provides training and analysis to a wide-ranging group of health care professionals and policymakers.

The center's staff, under the leadership of Director Glenn Melnick, conducts scientific research into all aspects of managed care and develops strategic plans for running cost-effective healthcare systems.

Melnick — holder of the Blue Cross of California Chair in Health Care Finance and a senior economist and resident consultant with the RAND think tank in Santa Monica — says the center's goal is to provide new knowledge to improve managed care throughout the world.
