Resolution 78-79-25
Salary Increases; Parking Rates
Whereas: Parking rates
have been announced to increase 22.7% on July 1, 1979; and Whereas:
We wish to indicate that we consider this action to be totally unfair to
faculty (staff and students), since the salary increase totaled only 5%. How
can the university, on the one, hand provide a 5% salary increase and then
charge faculty a 22.7% parking increase?; and Whereas: We are also doubtful
that this falls within the President=s guidelines, and even if it does, we would not
consider it to be in the spirit of such guidelines; Therefore: The committee
recognizes the problem of a potential deficit and the very high cost of
providing parking spaces. But faculty are faced with personal deficits by the
failure of the salary increases to match (or even 50% of) current inflation; I
Move That: We do not consider a 22.7% parking fee increase to be appropriate
and wish to have the maximum parking fee increase be no greater percentage wise
than salary increases granted to faculty.
