Resolution 79-80-21
Board of Trustees; Search Process;
University President
The Faculty Senate
endorses the following Resolution: The Faculty Senate is deeply concerned about
the transfer of the presidential search process to a small group of trustees.
This new arrangement does not appear to include active participation by elected
representatives of the faculty, as well as those other constituencies, in the
search deliberations; we therefore counsel the Trustees and the new Selection
Committee that the faculty=s elected representatives should contribute to the
screening of candidates, meet candidates in order to appraise them, ask and
answer questions, and have the opportunity to convey evaluations and
recommendations to the Selection Committee and the Board of Trustees. The
Faculty would have little confidence in a presidential appointment which failed
to incorporate active constituency participation and endorsement, especially by
the faculty through its elected representative.
