Academic Freedom; Due Process; Loans
The Faculty Senate
establish an AAcademic Freedom Loan Fund@ to provide non-interest bearing loans and small
grants to faculty members deprived, in the judgement
of the Faculty Senate, of their rights of academic freedom, academic tenure,
and full academic due process. Interest income from the investment of monies
from the fund, will be available for awards and grants to faculty, students, administrators,
and others who have contributed in some special way to the fostering of
academic freedom, tenure, and due process, or who have made some other
distinguished contribution to the enrichment of the life of the University.
Explanation: Funds will be solicited from both members of the University
community and individuals and groups outside the University. Accounting,
reporting, and management of the funds will be conducted in accord with
practices followed for the ABetty Young Faculty Sabbatical Leave Fund.@ Disbursements of monies from the fund will be made
to applicants by the Faculty Senate Executive Board. Annual reports will be
made to the Faculty Senate on the financial status of the fund.
