Research Grants; University Budget
Whereas: The vivaria has raised annual costs for 1981-82 by 41% with
possible further increases as high as 240%; and Whereas: Such expenses are
budgeted annually in fact are submitted several months to 1 year before the
fact of funding; and Whereas: This increase in direct costs, not previously
known, will seriously affect the ability of investigators to conduct their
research ; therefore Be It Resolved That: (A) The Executive Board of the
Faculty Senate be instructed to review with University Administration
appropriate means to maintain and enhance the ability of USC faculty to compete
for federal and non-governmental research grants and contracts. (B) That the
increase in rates for vivaria services be handled in
the same manner as increases in costs for overhead are currently handled.
