Resolution 81-82-01
Government Research Funding
The Faculty Senate
believes that research funding is one of the most acute problems the University of Southern California will face in the
foreseeable future. In the past three decades the Federal Government has
underwritten a large proportion of all university research. This federal
research support is being curtailed, drastically in certain areas, with even
further cuts in prospect. If USC is to continue to prosper as an intellectual
institution, contributing to the creation of new information and concepts,
significant additional funding must be sought from private sources. The Faculty
Senate urges that the acquisition of private funds for research purposes be one
of the University=s highest priorities.
