Class Scheduling Procedures

The resolution endorses, with revisions, the report of the Faculty Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Unit Value/Class Time and the recommended guidelines of the University Committee on Academic Affairs. Among the stated guidelines are that A...a minimum expectation would be that a 4 unit course meet no fewer than three 50 minute periods per week or its equivalent...,@ that AThe total hours of class meeting time in evening, summer and off-campus classes should be at least equal to that of classes offered in the regular session,@ and that ADepartments which offer lower division classes whose unit value is higher than the corresponding number of weekly 50-minute contact hours should be required to supply cogent academic reasons to justify the discrepancy.@
