Resolution 82-83-08
Salary Increases
Average faculty salaries
at USC, measured in constant dollars, have declined 15% since 1972-73. The longterm effects of this on faculty accomplishment, as well
as on the quality of faculty life, are bound to be negative. We therefore
propose that, in addition to maintaining and improving USC=s salaries relative to other major institutions, a
major goal of USC=s financial planning should be to at least restore
for each rank in the next ten years the losses in inflation-adjusted salary
that have accumulated in the past ten years. This would require an average
increase in faculty salaries of about 1 2 percentage points above the cost of living. [Note: the resolution includes a graph illustrating
the decline in constant dollars from 1972-73 to 1981-82]
