Resolution 82-83-16
Length of Faculty Contracts; Faculty
Salaries
The resolution notes that, AMost, but not all, faculty (exceptions include SSM
and Medicine) have nine month contracts, but are paid over 12 months, so,
unlike staff and administrators, nine month faculty do not receive their entire
salary at the end of the month in which it is earned by spring commencement. In
effect, faculty who depend on summer Asupplemental@ income must manage on three quarter pay for the
first nine months of the contract year, and catch up in the summer.@ Given this, this resolution asks the University
administration to offer faculty on academic-year appointments the option of
receiving their contract salary over nine months.
