Faculty Senate Environment Committee;
Governance Structure; Organized Research Units
Whereas: The University
Administration has expressed a strong desire to establish a formal policy on
Organized Research Units (ORU=s), and its Research Committee rejects the Faculty
Senate 1982 Resolution on such a policy, that Therefore Be It Resolved: That
the Faculty Senate=s 1982 Resolution (82-83-2) (attached) is hereby
reaffirmed with the following modification of point 2 of the April 28, 1982
Faculty Environment Committee Report, under Amodifications of the PAC Committee recommendations@: (2) Al inter-disciplinary and/or inter-departmental
ORU=s shall be designated as CORU=s [Central Organized Research Units] and be subject
to these policies for a trial period not to exceed three years. During that
period the Faculty Environment Committee will report at least annually on the
consequences of the policy. In all other respects, the 1982 resolution applies,
as is applicable, to the 1984 draft policy statement on ORU=s.
