Discontinuing Academic Units

Whereas: (1) The Senate authorized the appointment of a Special Ad Hoc Committee to prepare a policy statement relating to the Disestablishment of Academic Units; and (2) That Ad Hoc Committee has met regularly and frequently in the discharge of its duties and is on the verge of presenting a draft plan; Therefore Be It Resolved: (1) That since it seems incumbent on the Senate and the Administration of the University to receive and review the draft plan and to agree as soon as possible upon a mutually acceptable procedure for the disestablishment of Academic Units. (2) That in the interim, it seems inappropriate for the Administration to pursue the disestablishment of any academic unit until the mutually accepted plan can be implemented, thereby assuring every protection of academic due process to faculty who may be implicated, especially so since no condition of fiscal emergency may be said to exist at present.
