Cost of Living; Salary Increases; Merit
Pay
Whereas: The recent
Faculty Senate salary survey found that a majority of those who responded are
dissatisfied with the procedure and consequences of the faculty salary
determination process at USC; and Whereas: The Faculty Senate Employment and
Remuneration Committee has found incidents of the merit concept and
satisfactory service going unrewarded in terms of dollars of constant
purchasing power, Therefore Be It Resolved That: (1) All merit increases
be greater than the cost of living index in the L.A.-Long Beach area (2)
Satisfactory service must receive an increase equal to the cost of living
increase in the L.A.-Long Beach area fort he preceding calendar year (3)
Performance found less than satisfactory is to be addressed as a problem. Such
instances shall be handled through the mechanism of the Faculty Rights and
Responsibilities Subcommittee on Responsibility. This is to ensure an
opportunity for improvement in performance and to ensure the protection of
legitimate faculty rights.
