Resolution 86-87-06
Conflict of Interest; Faculty
Handbook; Faculty/Student Contact
I move that the following
policy statement be added to the Faculty/Student Relations section of the
Faculty Handbook and to the new University Catalogue: In genera, students
should not be taught by, or otherwise be under the academic supervision of a
family member or significant other. This includes undergraduate and graduate
courses, laboratory or research work, or graduate guidance and dissertation
committees. In those rare cases where the requirements of a specialized
curriculum or the expertise of a single faculty necessitates such instruction
or supervision, the faculty member will arrange with the department chair or
dean in advance to have another faculty member participate in, or review, the
evaluation of the student. All such special arrangements must be on record in
the office of the dean of the school granting the degree.
