Grade Inflation; Grading Policy
Whereas, grade inflation
and grade standard disparities at the University concern us all. Furthermore,
there is some evidence that grade inflation at U.S.C. is perceived to be a
problem by other universities, and Whereas, grade summaries for the courses
taught by each department as well as University-wide grade averages are now
compiled by the Provost=s office and distributed to all Deans, Therefore Be
It Resolved that the Deans be required to transmit these summaries to each
Department. Furthermore, each Department Chair should be encouraged by his/her
Dean to discuss the department=s grading policy in light of these data at a faculty
meeting.
