Resolution 86-87-20

Grade Inflation; Grading Policy

Whereas, grade inflation and grade standard disparities at the University concern us all. Furthermore, there is some evidence that grade inflation at U.S.C. is perceived to be a problem by other universities, and Whereas, grade summaries for the courses taught by each department as well as University-wide grade averages are now compiled by the Provost=s office and distributed to all Deans, Therefore Be It Resolved that the Deans be required to transmit these summaries to each Department. Furthermore, each Department Chair should be encouraged by his/her Dean to discuss the department=s grading policy in light of these data at a faculty meeting.
