Divestment of Funds; South Africa

 

Whereas the University of Southern California has a distinguished record in supporting human rights and academic freedom, such as the refusnik scholars, the South African Education Program, the South Africa Career Development Internships, the South African Faculty Fellowship Program and the South Africa Forum, and Whereas the Board of Trustees is reconsidering its investment policy in U.S. corporations in South Africa, and Whereas the Committee on Investment and Social Responsibility, appointed by President Zumberge, will report to the Board of Trustees in the spring, 1989, Therefore, The Faculty Senate urges total divestment of USC funds from U.S. corporations invested in, or having licensing agreements with, South Africa.
