Long Term Care Policy; Retirement Benefits
Whereas, the cost of long
term care can amount to tens of thousands of dollars, presenting the spectre of depleting all of one=s economic resources, and; Whereas, the University
provides no post retirement health benefits, and; Whereas, economic pressures
upon the University=s fringe benefits budget indicate little likelihood
that funds will be available to fund a long term care benefit in the
foreseeable future, and; Whereas, the Social Security medicare
safetynet provides no long term care coverage, and;
Whereas, State of California Medical for long term care is only available after
the retiree=s economic resources have been depleted; Be It
Therefore Resolved, that the Faculty Senate urges the University to pursue the
installation of an Employee Pal-All Group Long Term Care Plan, which would be
made available to all employees and retirees on a voluntary basis during the
next health plan open enrollment period. Be it further resolved that the plan
should be made available through the University=s Flexible benefits Pre-tax Payment Account if
legally permissible.
