Administrative Appointments; Faculty Participation; Search Process

 

Whereas the primary mission of the University of Southern California is the dissemination of existing knowledge through teaching, the creation of new knowledge through research and scholarship, and the deployment of knowledge through service to the community, and, Whereas these activities of the University=s mission are the primary responsibility of the Faculty of this University, whereas those of the administration are to facilitate and enable the faculty to carry on their duties, It Is Moved That the selection of all University administrators responsible for academic policy be performed by a Search Committee containing a significant number of faculty, appointed by the President or the appropriate Vice President, from a list submitted by the Faculty Senate. In the selection of Deans of Schools or the College, a majority of the members of the search committee shall be from that academic unit. Procedures for compiling such a list shall parallel those used in the selection of University Committees.
