Resolution 90-91-35

SAAS; Student-Athletes

Whereas: A the May 1990 Faculty Senate meeting Resolutions 89-90-14, 89-90-15, and 89-90-16 concerning Student Athletes at USC were presented and passed, and Whereas: the Senate continues to be concerned with these important issues, It Is Resolved That: The Senate wishes to restate and reconfirm its commitment to the above Resolutions. [89-90-14: Be It Resolved That: Increased funding and more adequate space be provided to SAAS, so that it can offer academic services to athletes at a level comparable to the other NCAA Division 1 Universities with which USC competes. 89-90-15: Be It Resolved That: USC faculty participate more actively with SAAS (1) in monitoring the performance of athletes in their classes, (2) that USC faculty members serve as mentors for individual athletes, and (3) that a faculty advisory committee for SAAS be created, in order to facilitate involvement in efforts to improve the academic performance of athletes at USC. 89-90-16: Be It Resolved That: USC investigate means of helping former USC athletes who reside outside of the Southern California area to complete their degrees.]
