Resolution 91-92-02
Academic Units; Faculty Councils; Governance
Structure
The Senate, by Resolution
90/91-20, has called upon each school to establish an elected faculty steering
committee with elected faculty chair, and has declared that these persons will
be involved together in a new structure to advise on university-wide questions;
Some schools may require Senate encouragement and assistance in establishing
school faculty committees that are elected and that have an effective role; In
this transition year as the Senate considers such new structures, it is
desirable that representatives of elected committees have a vehicle of
participation in the Senate. Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that The Senate
declares that during 1991-92 the elected faculty steering committee (by
whatever name) of each school or similar academic unit have the status of a
standing committee of the Senate, under Article III, Section 2 of the Senate
Constitution, so that its elected faculty chair like other Senate committee
chairs participants asa member of the Senate; This
designation comes into force as to each school when the Senate Executive Board
certifies that it in fact does have an elected faculty steering committee,
which shall count as its official appointment for Senate purposes, under
Article III, Section 5, of the Senate Constitution.
