Appointment Process; Department Chairs

Given the fact that, AUSC schools vary a great deal in terms of whether departmental chairs are chosen with the consent of the department or by the dean=s unilateral decision,@ this resolution urges that current policy on the fixed-term appointment of department chairs be enforced, that every chair now in his or her fourth year or beyond of service Ashould be continued in office only through the reappointment process,@ that they be subject to evaluation by the faculty in the department, and that the University Administration Committee, among other things, be charged with preparing general guidelines for the evaluation of department chairs.
