Faculty Handbook; Special Faculty

 

A resolution establishing a formal policy on Special Faculty Members. The resolution covers the topics under the following headings: 1) Maintaining Reasonable Relationships Between the Numbers and Proportions of Tenured, Tenure-Eligible, and Special Faculty Members in the University and its Academic Units; 2) Establishing Tenure de facto for Special Faculty Members; 3) Establishing and/or Disestablishing Special Faculty Categories and/or Title; 4) Clarifying and Improving Criteria and Procedures for Appointment and Promotion of Special Faculty Members; 5) Using Special Faculty Categories and Titles in Accord with University Policies and Stated in the 1987 USC Faculty Handbook; 6) Enhancing Due Process Rights for Special Faculty; 7) Strengthening the Security of Employment for Special Faculty; 8) Securing Academic Freedom Protections for Special Faculty; 9) Improving Fringe benefits for Special Faculty; 10) Extending Participation by Special Faculty in the Faculty Senate; 11) Clarifying and Enhancing Participation by Special Faculty in the Governance of Academic Units; and, 12) Use of Special Faculty Titles by Faculty Members.
