Resolution 91-92-08

Faculty Handbook; Maternity/ Paternity Leave; Merit Pay; Tenure Clock

Whereas, The Faculty Senate Special Committee on Promotion and Tenure Policy advices the President which individual cases deserve exceptions from the standard tenure deadlines. Frequently a faculty member requests an extension of the standard tenure deadline to provide an accommodation allowing time both for a new child and for the faculty member=s career. The Special Committee has recommended that a general statement be promulgated stating that such requests are appropriate. Now Therefore Be It Resolved By The Faculty Senate That In maternity/paternity cases, the Special Committee on Promotion and Tenure Policy is empowered to review individual situations on a merit basis, and to recommend to the President of the University an appropriate interruption in the tenure decision clock if the circumstances warrant. This policy should be included in the next edition of the Faculty Handbook.
