Discrimination; Salaries; Provost Pings

 

Whereas, 1) Discrimination in personnel decisions is impermissible and often illegal; 2) There is a need for objective data to establish the existence or extent of discrimination as to compensation and other personnel decisions affecting faculty; 3) At a meeting with the Senate Executive Board, Provost Pings agreed to undertake a study to provide data on possible gender discrimination in faculty salaries using cohort comparison; Therefore Be It Resolved That 1) The Faculty Senate commends Provost Pings for initiating a study of gender discrimination in faculty compensation; 2) The Faculty Senate urges that the study be completed promptly and no later than this semester; 3) The Faculty Senate requests the results be shared with Senate representatives; 4) The Faculty Senate suggests that the study be expanded to include discrimination against minorities and to include the circumstances under which such faculty left the University.
