Resolution 91-92-15

Appointments; University Budget
Whereas, 1) Some faculty members wish, for various reasons, to reduce
their appointments to less than full time. Part-time appointments can be
important to the individual and, particularly under current financial
conditions, can also be valuable to the University. Under current practice,
faculty on part-time appointments may lose part of or all of their fringe
benefits. 2) BenefitsCparticularly health careCare essential to faculty, regardless of other
conditions of employment. Therefore Be It Resolved That, The
Faculty Senate endorses the principle of the University providing full fringe
benefits for faculty whose appointments, at their own election, are reduced to
work at a level of fifty percent or more of full time. In order to expedite the
timely consideration of this in the 92-93 budget now
being developed, the Executive Board is instructed to meet and confer with the
appropriate administrative officers to work out details, including the expected
timetable for implementation.
