President Sample
Whereas, The Faculty
Senate Commission on the Future of the University has highlighted the
importance to the University of provisions for student
life. The Senate Commission on Student Cultural Life has begun work toward
enhancing the vitality of the cultural and intellectual environment the campus
provides for our students beyond the classroom. The Senate has already resolved
that the current planning process attend to this topic. The Vice President for
Student Affairs, James Dennis, has commendably cooperated with enthusiasm with
the Senate=s efforts. President Sample has emphasized increased
attention to students as vital to recruitment and retention of the best
students. The University previously had Committees on Student Affairs or
Student Life, but has not had such a committee for some time. The Senate
Commission on Student Cultural Life is a temporary body with limited mission.
Its concerns and recommendations deserve follow through by a permanent body.
Now Therefore Be It Resolved By The Faculty Senate
That, A standing committee on Student Life be created. The Executive Board
should work with the Vice President, Student Affairs, toward dual
administrative-Senate sponsorship of the committee, preferably as a Senate
committee recognized by the administration.
