Whereas, faculty and
administration have worked long and hard to reach agreement on a most
controversial policy, and Whereas, the USC community, as represented by members
of the Feminist Council, the Provost and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, the
Director of Affirmative Action, Medical Faculty Women=s Association, the Director of Office for Women=s Issues, endorses, in principle*, the new Sexual
Harassment Policy developed by a Senate Task Force, Therefore Be It Resolved,
that the Senate accept and endorse, in principle*, the new University Policy on
Sexual Harassment for publication in the Faculty Handbook. *The policy is being evaluated by the legal
counsel of the University for any possible legal problems.
Since several Professors of Law have worked on the policy the latter seems
unlikely. However, in the event that changes in language are needed, the
Executive Board will act for the Senate. The Provost will present the approved
policy to President Sample as soon as possible.
