the Future of Distance Education

The dot-com boom has gone bust, and with it the dreams of many distance education startups. One of the more notable losers is HungryMinds.com, which conceived of itself as a portal for online content. A search engine for seekers of online courses, it readily became apparent that there was not a lot of content out there worth indexing.

Initiative Update 2001

USC's overarching goal is to prepare its students -both domestic and international- for leadership roles in a world in which knowledge and economies are increasingly interconnected. In order to accomplish this, USC needs to create substantially more teaching and research opportunities for its students and faculty to learn about the cultures, politics, and economies of Asia and Latin America.
