WHEREAS, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC) for Information
Services was established in May 2001 by the Dean of the University

the Provost to provide high-level guidance for a five to ten-year,
university-wide plan for developing campus information and technology
infrastructure;
|
WHEREAS the committee was charged with publishing the information services
strategic plan by June 2002, in order to shape budgetary proposals for the
following year;
|
WHEREAS the evolving draft report has been online and available to USC
faculty for comment since autumn of 2001 at
http://www.usc.edu/isd/strategicplan/, circulated broadly and discussed at
a variety of levels and committees;
|
WHEREAS the chair of the SPSC has introduced and discussed the report
"Information Pathways to Excellence: Mission-Driven Strategies for Library
and Information Services" at two Academic Senate meetings;
|
WHEREAS the planning process has produced a report that incorporates
feedback from hundreds of faculty, administrators, and students at USC;
|
BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Academic Senate commend the work of the SPSC
committee and support the spirit of the six information pathways to
excellence, as defined by the SPSC report, and urge the administration to
support the SPSC's efforts to improve library and information services in
ways that will reinforce the University's central academic missions in
teaching, research and service. Furthermore, the Academic Senate urges the
administration to establish a mechanism for continuing faculty input on
key decisions and processes related to advancing the six information pathways.
