Resolution 96/97-08

This document incorporates all amendments made during the march 19, 1997 meeting.

WHEREAS, the Faculty Senate Resolution 95/96-07, passed unanimously on May 8, 1996, has resolved: "the Academic Senate reaffirms that the principles embodied in the tenure system are central to the mission and the very nature of the University.";

WHEREAS, the Academic Senate Resolution 96/97-06, passed without opposition on January 15, 1997, has asserted that: "Tenure resides with the University and not in an individual school or unit."

WHEREAS, the Faculty Handbook, Section 1.2(d), includes in the authorities vested in the President:

" (d) Academic Program. The President of the University shall have full power of appointment, direction and supervision of the faculties and the organization thereof.";

WHEREAS, the same President’s authority realized to discontinue a unit can be invoked to reassign its tenured faculty members;

WHEREAS, the President and his officers have indicated a desire for the Academic Senate’s consensus regarding the reassignment of ISSM tenured faculty;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT,

The Academic Senate has consented and urges the Provost to immediately act upon his authority and reassign the tenured ISSM faculty who wish to stay.
