AAUP Censure
WHEREAS, the American Association of University Professors, at its 1996 Annual Meeting, placed the University of Southern California on censure for violations of academic freedom, academic tenure, and full academic due process,
WHEREAS, the University of Southern California adheres to national standards and procedures concerning academic freedom, academic tenure, and full due process, as embodied in the Faculty Handbook, and
WHEREAS, the Academic Senate, is the representative, faculty organization at the University of Southern California responsible for safeguarding these standards,
BE IT RESOLVED THAT
1. the Academic Senate expresses its concern with the causes and consequences of AAUP censure, namely, having the University of Southern California identified as an institution of higher learning which violated academic freedom, academic tenure, and full academic due process;
2. the Academic Senate President invites the Provost to join him in appointing a
Special Task Force to facilitate the lifting of censure by the AAUP.
