Resolution 97/98-07
Procurement of Travel Services
Whereas, the role of the administration is to ensure that the faculty has the resources and the conditions to perform its mission and to provide a supportive environment that encourages and rewards the academic creativity and productivity of the faculty,
Whereas, creativity and productivity of the faculty requires a supportive and nurturing environment,
Whereas, micromanagement is inherently inimical to the faculty's ability to express creativity,
Whereas, the memo of February 11 on "Procurement of Travel Services", where it states that ".. all faculty ... travelling on University Business will be required to use USC's Designated Travel Agency..." is an example of such micromanagement, and
Whereas, when Faculty use travel funds from their grants and contracts they already seek to maximize the value of the funds available,
BE IT RESOLVED THAT
1. the Academic Senate strongly opposes the policy enunciated in the memo of February 11 on "Procurement of Travel Services" and requests that it be rescinded, and
2. the administration consult with the Academic Senate before taking actions that affect faculty.
