1905: Looking North along Broadway from roof of Lankership Hotel

In 1905 an unknown photographer shot a 9-frame pananorama from the roof of the Lankershim Hotel (no longer extant). The author has stitched the panorama together. This page examines details from the original frames.

c 1930s: Looking Southwest across intersection of Broadway and 7th.

Archival caption: "Loew State Building (Loew State Theatre) at the Southwest corner of Seventh Street and Broadway. Security for an S. W. Strauss & Co. bond issue of $2,250,000. Further down Seventh St. (heading west), the Spreckels Bldg. can be seen. Many streetcars can be seen operating here as thousands crowd into the theatre." c 1930s: Looking South along Broadway from the Northeast corner of Seventh

Archival Description: "Crowds gather outside the Loew's State Theater at the corner of S. Broadway and W. 7th St. in Downtown Los Angeles. Also in view are the Isaacs Building, Marshall Field & Co., Chicago Wholesale Dry Goods, Johnson Rass Co., Wholesale Millinery, Machin Shirt Co., Clayburgh Bros. Woolens at 745 S. Broadway, a dentist's office at 706 S. Spring, and the Hotel Lankershim. Seventh and Broadway was also a busy junction for the Pacific Electric Railway, with southbound cars leaving on the San Diego Coast Route, stopping at Whittier, Santa Ana, Oceanside, and La Jolla.
