[Note 2]

Roger Kiel, Los Angeles: Globalization, Urbanization and Social Struggles (Chichester, U.K., and New York: John wiley and Sons, 1998), is a very useful overview from a decidedly Davisian perspective; In addition to a continuous outpouring of essays and journalistic columns, Mike Davis published a much-anticipated monograph, Ecology of Fear: Los Angeles and the Imagination of Disaster (New York: Metropolitan Books, 1998). See also his short Magical Urbanism: Latinos Reinvent the US Big City (New York: Verso, 2000).
