28 June - 1 July 1998
Kyoto, JAPAN

DATES: 28 June - 1 July 1998. The first day will be scheduled for the registration and the welcoming party.

LOCATION: Kyoto International Conference Hall, Kyoto, Japan

SPONSORING ASSOCIATIONS:

SUPPORTING ASSOCIATIONS:

OBJECTIVES: The Conference seeks to bring together engineers, scientists, architects, builders and others interested in the general field of active, hybrid and passive vibration control, health monitoring and damage detection, intelligent/smart materials and systems of buildings, civil infrastructures, and space structures under the action of earthquakes, wind and man-made loads.

LOCATION: The Conference will be held at Kyoto International Conference Hall (KICH) in Japan. It is located in the scenic north area of Kyoto city. The address is: Kyoto International Conference Hall (KICH) Takaragaike, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto 606, JAPAN

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: The official language for the Conference sessions will be English. No translation service will be arranged. The Proceedings will be published in English.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: The Conference will include

  1. Keynote Lectures presented by world authorities in structural control and monitoring;
  2. State-of-the-Art Reports prepared by well-known specialists in specific topics;
  3. Oral Sessions consisting of conventional oral presentation and discussion of papers;
  4. Special Theme Sessions consisting of workshops to discuss specific subjects arranged by the Technical Program Sub-committee in cooperation with the Paper Review Sub-committee;
  5. Poster Sessions in which authors use display boards to present their material and the audience may communicate directly with them.

CALL FOR PAPERS: Papers and presentations are solicited on applications and research: completed, underway or planned, on topics relevant to the Conference. The Conference will cover a wide-range of topics including active and semi-active control devices, passive control devices, control algorithms for non-linear systems, modeling and identification of structural systems, sensors, health monitoring and damage detection, benchmark test of buildings, innovative materials for structural control, applications to bridges, applications to critical structures, external dynamic force characteristics and controllability issues, implications of strong ground motions, wind forces, codes for structural control, and so forth. The Abstract should be submitted for review to the 2WCSC Steering Committee by 15 October 1997. It could be sent via either electronic mail (e-mail) or postal mail to the following address:

The e-mail Abstract should not exceed 300 words. The accepted abstract volume will be distributed at the Conference. If accepted, camera-ready papers should be submitted by 1 July 1998. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by 31 December 1997. Multiple submission should be accepted on condition that one participant presents one paper. Accepted papers should not exceed 10 pages in length (single-spaced, including figures, tables, etc.). Further details regarding submission of camera-ready papers will be provided with the notification of acceptance.

EXHIBITS: A Commercial Exhibition will be displayed at the Conference site simultaneously with the scientific sessions. This will be a good opportunity for firms and groups of researchers to display their projects, products and services. Potential exhibitors should contact the Steering Committee for details by 31 December 1997. The registration fee for each exhibition is 200,000 yen.

REGISTRATION: The registration fee for the Conference is 40,000 yen, which covers attendance of all technical sessions, daily lunch, the Conference banquet, and one copy of the Conference Proceedings.
