OBJECTIVES: The Conference seeks to bring together engineers, scientists, architects, builders and others interested in the general field of active, hybrid and passive vibration control, health monitoring and damage detection, intelligent/smart materials and systems of buildings, civil infrastructures, and space structures under the action of earthquakes, wind and man-made loads.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: The official language for the Conference sessions will be English. No translation service will be arranged. The Proceedings will be published in English.
SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: The Conference will include
CALL FOR PAPERS: Papers and presentations are solicited on applications and research: completed, underway or planned, on topics relevant to the Conference. The Conference will cover a wide-range of topics including active and semi-active control devices, passive control devices, control algorithms for non-linear systems, modeling and identification of structural systems, sensors, health monitoring and damage detection, benchmark test of buildings, innovative materials for structural control, applications to bridges, applications to critical structures, external dynamic force characteristics and controllability issues, implications of strong ground motions, wind forces, codes for structural control, and so forth. The Abstract should be submitted for review to the 2WCSC Steering Committee by 15 October 1997. It could be sent via either electronic mail (e-mail) or postal mail to the following address:

EXHIBITS: A Commercial Exhibition will be displayed at the Conference site simultaneously with the scientific sessions. This will be a good opportunity for firms and groups of researchers to display their projects, products and services. Potential exhibitors should contact the Steering Committee for details by 31 December 1997. The registration fee for each exhibition is 200,000 yen.
REGISTRATION: The registration fee for the Conference is 40,000 yen, which covers attendance of all technical sessions, daily lunch, the Conference banquet, and one copy of the Conference Proceedings. Participants registering before 31 March 1998 are eligible for a reduced registration fee of 35,000 yen.
PROCEEDINGS: Only papers presented at the Conference will be published in the Proceedings of the Second World Conference on Structural Control (2WCSC), which will serve as a permanent reference. Presentation is a condition necessary for publication.

OFFICIAL TRAVEL AGENCY: Several hotels have been reserved at reduced rates for the Conference participants. Three classes of hotels will be available, Class A hotel will range from 16,000 yen to 21,000 yen, Class B 12,000 yen to 16,000 yen, and Class C 8,000 yen to 12,000 yen. The daily room charges include tax and service charges but no meals. The official travel agency for the Conference will assist you with your hotel accommodations and travel arrangements within Japan.
The travel agency and the hotel accommodation and tour form will be attached to the acceptance of Abstract and the Third Announcement.

Typing Instructions for 2WCSC Abstract
The Abstract Title should be Typed in Boldfaced Times 14 pt. Size,
Centered.
The First Letter of Each Word is Capitalized.
First Author (Principal Author) 1, Second Author 2, Third Author 3, etc.

ABSTRACT
Use a new, good black ribbon and type the abstract clearly on a white
paper measuring 21.0 cm by 29.7 cm (A4 size) or 8.5 inches by 11.0 inches
(Letter size). The right, left, upper and lower margins are approximately
2.5 cm or one inch. The abstract title "ABSTRACT" should be typed in
boldfaced Times 12 pt., capitalized and centered. Following "ABSTRACT",
the content of this paragraph should be typed single-spaced in Times 12
pt., left and right justification. Do not indent the first paragraph.
Leave two spaces on the first line from the second paragraph. The abstract
must contain enough detail to clearly convey the approach and results of
the research.
The abstract must not exceed one page. .........
The preference for either "Oral Session" or "Poster Session" must be
indicated in a cover letter. The Technical Program Sub-committee may alter
the preferred session.
