Getting to Fatu Hiva

Fatu Hiva is the southernmost island of the Marquesas group, north-east of Tahiti and the Society Islands.

Passage to Fatu Hiva was accomplished by flying to Papeete on Tahiti, then taking two successively smaller planes, the first to Nuku Hiva. A smaller Dornier (below) airplane was used to fly from Nuku Hiva to Hiva Oa. From Hiva Oa we made the very rough, 50 mile passage to Fatu Hiva by boat. The photo below shows how rough it was.
