The tsunami wave approached from the left and completely
washed over the cape to a level of nearly 5m above sea level. The
extent of the inundation can be clearly seen in this aerial photograph
taken the day after the tsunami. The smoke is coming from fires which
were caused by fuel oil which was spilled during the earthquake.
