| 8/24/99, 12:30 PM: Between Sirinyali and Hereke there were a few kilometers of steep cliffed coast with large rocks and rip rap at the waterline. We were unable to find any trace of the wave while walking along 1km of coast. This was very unusual, since there were eyewitness accounts of waves and physical evidence of 2 m runup 2 km in either direction along the coast. We were very thorough in our search but unable to find a tsunami trace anywhere. |
