| 8/23/99, 1:30 PM: In this small seaside town, all of the boats normally on the beaches were pushed 30 - 50 m up the streets. Runup was measured here to be between1 and 2 m. One man's yard was flooded and a mooring bouy deposited in his back yard. Seaweed traces were found 50 m up a street. The residents also reported that the sea level had risen 2 m or more. They say thet there used to be a beach infront of their seawall. However when we were there there was just the road and an abrupt change to the water. Everything had subsided about 2 m. |
