| 8/24/99 12:00 PM: A few km west of Yalikent, Sirinyali had the highest measured runup of 2.5 m. The measurement was taken in two locations about 100 m apart and both agreed to within 5 cm. The wave was more forceful here than in any other place. It came in strong enough to break the windows of the sea front basement apartments and flood them with sea shells and sea weed. There was also a subsidence of 10 - 15 cm. Seaweed traces were found on the floors of the second floor balconies and all along the railings going up the stairs. |
