The harmonizing
Dining Room is early Georgian in style, with its high wainscoting
of carved old Oak, while embossed and gilded leather walls reflect
the influence of Old Spain. The ceiling is an excellent example
of French gesso work displayed so elegantly by the lovely Austrian
crystal chandelier. Furnishings were collected from many parts
of Europe; the Sèvres china from France, cabinets from Switzerland,
credenzas from Flanders, southern France and Italy; carved Sandalwood
screens from Burma; ancient brasses from China; carved bronze gargoyles
from France. The dining table of fumed oak and red leather-upholstered
chairs are English baronial, carrying the Haraszthy coat-of-arms
on their backs. The Barton A. Stebbins Bavarian crystal collection
is also exquisitely exhibited in this room.
