Abolish Cross-Filing in California records (0225) This collection contains the records of the group formed by John B. Elliott to abolish the practice of cross-filing in California (Abolish Cross-Filing in California). Cross-filing is a practice that permits candidates for political office to register in multiple parties for primary elections. If a candidate then wins nominations from multiple parties, they run with less (or no) competition in the fall election. The records present in this collection include filing vouchers, correspondence, clippings, subject files, cancelled checks, and financial information. The proposition to abolish cross-filing passed in 1952.
Academy of Certified Social Workers Competence Certification Board records (0464) The Academy of Certified Social Workers Competence Certification Board records consist of meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, and reports, that document the activities of this body during the early 1980s. Included is information about the establishment and oversight of certification standards for social workers, and the design of the certification examination administered by the Educational Testing Service. The records also provide some information about general activities carried out by the Board in its relationship with the National Association of Social Workers and the Academy of Certified Social Workers, including membership issues and general social work education.
Actors and Actresses scrapbook (0306) This bound scrapbook contains photographic portraits of theater and movie actors and actresses clipped from popular magazines in the years 1917 and 1918. Many are accompanied by brief blurbs about the individual's career. A bookplate on the inside cover indicates provenance as the Research Department Library of Paramount Pictures.
Alexander (Chauncey) papers (0419) The papers include material collected by Chauncey Alexander over a long and active life in social work and radical politics. Included are personal papers, school papers, and materials relating to Alexander's leadership of such organizations as the National Association of Social Workers, the International Federation of Social Workers, the First Amendment Foundation, and other organizations. Considerable materials are preserved from Alexander's service as an adjunct professor of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach.
All Nations Church and Foundation photographs (0421) The All Nations Church and Foundation photographs (circa 1924-1967) consist of photographic material in a variety of formats; the collection provides a rich view of the people, community, and activities associated with the All Nations Foundation's operations in Los Angeles. Among the subjects documented in the photographs are All Nations centers and community life; arts and education; recreation and leisure; groups and individuals; and publicity materials. The collection complements the All Nations Church and Foundation records, also held in the California Social Welfare Archives at USC.
All Nations Church and Foundation records (0403) The records contain correspondence; program plans and proposals; medical records and statistics; budgets and other financial records; staff rosters; miscellaneous religious publications; newspaper clippings; brochures, and other publications describing the work of All Nations; annual reports; committee reports, agendas, and minutes; and staff reports on activities. This collection encompasses the years 1925-1978, with the bulk of the material dating frmo the decade of the 1930s.
Allan Hancock Foundation Archive (0257) The Allan Hancock Foundation Archive contains records of the Foundation set up at the University of Southern California by G. Allan Hancock for the purpose of furthering oceanographic studies. These records also include those materials from the library and museum that were associated with the Foundation, as well some personal mementos of Captain Hancock's and the Hancock family. Also included are extensive records of the research ship Velero IV, as well as sound recordings, photographs and films produced by and related to the Allan Hancock Pacific Expeditions of the Foundation (1925-1960). The expeditions explored the eastern Pacific coast into South America, visiting the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Panama, and Baja California.

The postcards are arranged geographically and cover such places as Los Angeles County, Orange County, the California Missions, Riverside County, the Mission Inn of Riverside, San Diego County, Imperial County, San Bernardino, mining towns, and other miscellaneous views and shots of people and places in and around California.
Allen (Steve) Collection (2064) Collection consists of papers of actor, writer, composer, lyricist, and author Steve Allen (1921- ). Includes promotional material, business correspondence, television scripts for The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956-60) and The Tonight Show. Several screenplays also included.
American Guild of Organists records (0019) Established in 1908, the Southern California Chapter of the American Guild of Organists is a local chapter of the national professional association serving the organ and choral music fields. This collection contains the records of the Los Angeles and Pasadena chapters of the American Guild of Organists, including administrative files, publications, and annual scrapbooks.
American Personnel and Guidance Association Records (0017) Records of the California division of APGA, ca. 1955-71; membership files, newsletters. In 1952, The American College Personnel Association joined with three other all-volunteer organizations to form the American Personnel and Guidance Association (APGA), devoted to the education and holistic development of students in higher education. It provides programs, services, and other educational professional development opportunities for student affairs professionals to enhance the quality of the learning environment on college and university campuses. From 1952 to 1992, ACPA continued its affiliation with APGA. During that 40 year period, APGA became known as AACD (The American Association for Counseling and Development); and ACPA continued its focus on the holistic education and development of college and university students.
Amigos de Humanidad records (0472) Los Amigos de Humanidad records consist of correspondence, membership applications and lists, meeting minutes, and financial information, 1968-1981, that document the founding, development, and activities of this fundraising organization.

Anhalt (Edward) Collection (2027) Collection consists of the papers of associate producer, writer, documentary producer, TV director, and photographer Edward Anhalt (1914- ). These include scripts, production notes, drafts, treatments, synopses, outlines, publicity clippings, research photos, and correspondence for film and television.
Anthony (John J.) Collection (2086) Collection consists of Radio transcriptions, tapes, scripts, and files from several programs on which John J. Anthony was featured. John J. Anthony (1902-1970) was born in New York City as Lester Kroll and died in San Francisco in 1970. He was a radio host, moderator of the Goodwill Hour program (later John J. Anthony Hour), from 1937 to 1953, providing expert advice on marriage, divorce, and marital relations to listeners.
Arkatov (James) photographs (0191) James Arkatov was a cellist who photographed famous concert soloists performing. This collection consists of black and white prints of the photographs he took between 1946 and 1990.
Ashenfelter (Orion) papers (0195) A collection of seventeen letters written by Orion Ashenfelter to his family while on his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, which began on January 29, 1900. Included in these letters is an eyewitness account of events during the Boxer Rebellion in China.
