[Box/folder# or item name], Robert B. Richardson collection on Southern California Theater, Collection no. 0242, Special Collections, USC Libraries, University of Southern California.
Historical Note
Robert Richardson created the Robert Richardson collection on Southern California Theater to document the history of both the theaters and the theater in Southern California.
Scope and Content
This collection originally consisted of 193 binders created by Robert Richardson. The contents have been removed from the binders and foldered; however, the folders retain the original order and titles of the binders. This collection provides information about Southern California's stage theaters, theater companies (including those in San Diego), and actors. Most files consist of newspaper clippings printed from the microfilm of local papers and industry publications on a specific topic or theater. Some contain original newspaper clippings, correspondence pertaining to Richardson's research, and advertising material from theaters. Also included are Richardson's compilations of theater statistics, lists, and data sheets on particular topics. The theaters represented include the Belasco Theater, the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, the Mason Opera House, the Mason Theater, the Mayan Theater, the Music Box Theater, the Ahmanson Theater, the Pasadena Playhouse, the Las Palmas Theater, the Biltmore Theater, and the La Jolla Playhouse.
