Overview
The Social Work Information Center is located in the School of Social Work in Hamovitch Research Center, room 104. The center provides computer access to the Internet, electronic research tools such as library databases and catalogs, access to E-mail, and group study areas. The social work librarian provides students and faculty with research assistance and instruction.
Most social work books and journals are located in the Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library bookstacks. Some are located at other facilities such as Gerontology, Norris Medical and von KleinSmid building libraries. Call numbers and locations of all USC (including Doheny Library) books and journals can be found in HOMER, the libraries catalog. Bound social work print journals are housed in Doheny Library bookstacks, level 1. They are arranged by Library of Congress call number. Journals for the current year are located in the Academic Resources Gateway Office (ARGO), located on the first floor of Doheny Library. Their call numbers can be found in HOMER.
Online Full-Text Journals
Several social work-related journals are available in full-text through databases and electronic journal subscriptions. For a full list, consult the online social work journals list. Those journals that are not available in full-text and that are owned by USC, can be found at Doheny Library and other individual USC libraries. Articles in these journals can be photocopied in the relevant library.
Research assistance is available for search strategy formation, database recommendations and demonstrations, citation assistance, and related information and research needs for papers and projects. Library Instruction
The library instruction program for the Social Work Information Center includes classroom presentations, course-integrated instruction, research seminars and workshops.
Orange County Social Work Students
Orange County social work students have access to the Madison Hinchman Reading Library, to USC reserve books and journals and to the Orange County computer lab. OC students also have the option of using a document delivery service. This means that required journal articles can be copied at USC/LA and delivered to you at USC/OC.

Reserves
Print and electronic books and journals that have been put on reserve for a class can be accessed at the Leavey Library circulation desk. The call numbers of reserve items can be found by going to HOMER and selecting the "Reserve Item" blue button.

Arlien Johnson Social Work History Collection
This collection, approximately 700 volumes published prior to 1960, is located in the Social Work Library Information Center. The collection serves to illuminate the scope and practice of social work and social welfare in the past, and offers insights for understanding how we have come to today’s practice and social policies. This is a non-circulating collection.
